PubMed: How to Create an Account: Introduction

Introduction to this Guide

This guide provides assistance for creating an account in PubMed to then save searches & generate weekly updates.

Advantages of creating an account:

  • Display format preferences
  • Filter options
  • My Bibliography & NIH public access policy compliance
  • SciENcv: a researcher biosketch profile service
  • Highlighting search terms
  • Recent activity searches & records for 6 months

Steps

  1. If you do not already have an NIH Account, we recommend you consider creating & using ORCID (designed for researchers, scholars, professionals, and academic staff/students). Click here to create an ORCID iD account
  2. Click on this NMU Olson Library link to login to PubMed 
  3. Next, click on the Log In button in the top-right of the page (see below):

  4. Below the list of third-party accounts, click on Sign up

  5. The next screen displays different types of accounts you may use to Sign Up to your PubMed account:

    Please remember that whichever third-party account you choose, the next screen will prompt you to login using that specific third-party account username/email/ID and password.  

    The system will then return you a PubMed screen. You will be logged in to PubMed. so you may begin searching, saving, and arranging for email updates of topics.

    Now every time you access PubMed, please remember to login using whatever third-party account you indicated above. You know you are logged in when in the upper-right corner, you see your login name displayed:
